Who is eligible to complete an exit Certificate?
Anyone who has completed the Junior Cycle may get the Leave Certificate.

Yes! They are referred to as the traditional Certificate of Leaving Certificate and the Leaving Certificate Application. Both are full-time two-year programs.
Which Sort of Leaving Cert do students most often choose?

No. Certain subjects, such as Art for instance do require the requirement of a practical exam. Others , such as Geography as well as Home Economics, for example are subject to students completing the field study or write a journal for their students which could form a portion of the final grade.
What are the reasons why my child/daughter might choose the leaving Certificate Instead of the Applied Certificate?

What are the criteria for awarding students marks or credits?
After students have completed their work (Key Assignments and tasks) they receive credits that count to their final grade. There is a possibility to earn nearly two-thirds of their marks on tasks completed in school prior to taking the final exam.
The leaving Cert Approved is awarded on three different levels: Distinction the Merit, or the Pass. Students also earn credit for their regular attendance at school. Attendance at school at 90% or more is required. Only absences that are justified with a doctor’s prescription can be exempted. Students who fail to attend regularly are not awarded an A grade in their Leaving Cert Application.
Does the Leaver’s Cert applied count as “Points” to be considered for third-level colleges?
No. However, you could be admitted to an PLC course through this Leave Cert which could lead to entry at the third level.
Is a PLC a PCL?
It is a program that is run by one of the ETB institution e.g. Marino College of Further Education, Connolly House, for students who have earned one or both of the Leaver Certificates. There is a wide range of PLC programs offered in PLC colleges, ranging from Nursing to Business, photography, child care, drama and Media, among others. Can students who have the Leaving Certificate applied get into all PLC classes?
In general, yes, but certain PLC courses require qualifications in Maths or Science and Technology. Our Career Guidance instructors help you figure out the qualifications required for certain courses.
If a person completes the PLC training course. What happens next?
Students are able to be admitted to some courses at the third level and apprentices (eg Carpentry) or traineeships (eg Dental Nursing) based on their PLC accomplishments. A lot of students opt to directly enter the workforce.
